Water Testing

We offer a full and independent rural water testing service for rain, bore, spring and stream water. This includes testing minerals, pH levels, water hardness and bacteria.

We will provide a copy of the water test results and advice on treatment requirements. We are then able to provide a quote for the filtration system recommended.  Please note we do not test town water supplies. Information on town/city  water treatment can usually be obtained from your local city or district council.

Please contact us prior to sending or bringing in a water sample for testing as a lab container is required to collect your sample with special instructions for collection and delivery provided.  We are able to courier out this container or you can collect one fron our Barton Street store.  If you have already had a water test analysis, you can fax or email us with the results and we will advise you on possible treatment solutions.

If you have any Bore Water issues or wish to check the purity of your Bore water we always recommend a water test be taken before treating the water supply.  This ensures we can accurately assess the Bore water quality and make the most suitable recommendation.

The procedure for taking a Bore water sample for testing is outlined below.

  • Take a container such as a 1 litre empty plastic milk container and wash thoroughly out to ensure it is clean
  • To take the sample, use an outside tap or water source point as close to the bore as possible
  • Turn the tap on with a good flow, or allow the water from where you are taking the sample,  to run to waste for at least two minutes
  • Use this water to rinse your container before taking the sample
  • Reduce water pressure before the sample is taken (to prevent excessive splashing and getting air into the container)
  • Holding the bottle near the base with one hand, fill the bottle slowly to within 2.5cm (1 inch) of the top
  • Replace the cap immediately and secure tightly to prevent spillage

Please note:

  • The water sample should be taken in the morning and dropped off or couriered to us that same morning to allow for testing to begin that day
  • If you suspect bacterial contamination of your Bore water and would like microbiological analyses done, you must provide a second sample in a separate sterile   collection bottle (Contact us if you require a sterile collection bottle.)
