Whole House
All houses on rainwater (tank water) should have basic filtration as a bare minimum, for removal of fine particles, dust, sediment and Giardia (See Option 1 below). This will also protect expensive tapware, dishwashers, washing machines, and other household appliances.
For removal/reduction of other contaminants from all your water, such as chemicals, chlorine, pesticides, tastes and odours; a second carbon filter can be added (See Option 2 below).
OPTION 1: IH500 Housing with 1SW500 Particle Filter (Giardia & Cryptosporidium safe)
You can filter all the tank water coming into your house for dirt, sediment, solid particle, Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The IH500 housing fits inline between the pump (or tank) and the house and contains a 1-micron polypropylene string wound filter (1SW500). This is the most suited filter assembly for rainwater and is suitable for most gravity fed tank supplies, as it does not restrict the flow rate.
The 1SW500 filter cartridge is changed after 6 months or when a pressure drop is experienced through clogging (This filter will not remove taste, odours or chemicals - if removal of these is also required , see dual system below). If you suspect you have a bacterial contamination in your rainwater supply or you wish to safeguard yourself from any possible bacterial or viral contamination, we recommend you add an optional ultraviolet steriliser unit after the particle filter.
OPTION 2: Dual IH500 Housings with 1SW500 Particulate Filter and PAC50 Carbon Filter (Giardia & Cryptosporidium safe)
If you have or suspect chemical contamination of your rainwater (from pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers landing on your roof) or the water has tastes and odours, you can install a dual filtration system. The second inline housing (IH500) contains a high flow carbon filter (PAC50), capable of handling the flow rate for a whole house. This dual system gives you guaranteed protection against Giardia, Cryptosporidium, and most chemical contaminants that could be in your rainwater. This dual system may not be suitable for some gravity feed situations. With this dual sytem option, an additional point of use drinking water filter is not usually required.
The 1SW500 pre-filter is changed after 6 months (unless pressure drops before) and change PAC50 carbon filter after 6 months (or when tastes and smells reappear). If you live near an orchard or farm that uses sprays, we recommend the MCT50 Solid Carbon Filter Cartridge (instead of PAC50) for removal of heavy chemical contamination (will not suit all circumstances, high pressure required). If you suspect you have a bacterial contamination in your rainwater supply or you wish to safeguard yourself from any possible bacterial or viral contamination, we recommend you add an optional ultraviolet steriliser unit after the dual filter system.
