Iron and Manganese

High levels of iron and manganese in spring or bore waters can often cause brown/black staining on baths, showers and toilets and stain clothes during washing. Often the water will appear clear when it comes out of the bore or spring and then turn brown/black in the pipework or in the storage tank. There are several different forms of iron found in water, making the treatment of this problem very complex and specific to individual cases. There are several different systems available to treat iron, and selecting the correct system is dependant on other dominating factors and contaminants such as manganese, low pH, high calcium levels, dirt loadings and volume of use.

In order for us to recommend a treatment system we require a water test and analysis. A water test can be obtained from your local laboratory or you can use our water testing service.

We have several types and sizes of iron/manganese removal systems which incorporate either a manual or automatic backwash system in order to remove the contaminants that are collected in the filtration media. This can be done either daily or weekly, depending on the contaminant rating and volume of usage.
